“a small red flower” mà không dùng “a red small flower”
hoặc: “an expensive black Japanese car” mà không dùng “a Japanese black expensive car”
The Royal Order of Adjectives
DETERMINER | OBSERVATION / OPINION / EVALUATION | SIZE | SHAPE | AGE | COLOR | ORIGIN | MATERIAL | QUALIFIER | NOUN | |||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
a | beautiful | old | Italian | touring | car | |||||||||||||
an | expensive | antique | silver | mirror | ||||||||||||||
four | gorgeous | long-stemmed | red | silk | roses | |||||||||||||
our | big | old | English | sheepdog | ||||||||||||||
those | square | wooden | hat | boxes | ||||||||||||||
that | dilapidated | little | hunting | cabin | ||||||||||||||
several | enormous | young | American | basketball | players | |||||||||||||
some | delicious | Thai | food |
Giải thích thêm:
Determiner (từ bắt đầu của một noun phrase): Có thể là articles (a, an, the), là possessives (your, his, her, my, their, our), từ chỉ số lượng number (ten, several, some), có thể là chỉ định từ demonstratives (this, that, those, these)
Observation / Opinion / Evaluation (quan sát, ý kiến, nhận xét, đánh giá của người viết, người nói): Ví dụ: cold, ugly, tasty, heroic, retired, carefree, enthusiastic, soft, opinionated, priceless
- Size (kích cỡ): Ví dụ: huge, minuscule, petite
- Shape (hình dáng): Ví dụ: square, oblong, circular
- Age (độ tuổi/thời gian tồn tại): Ví dụ: ancient, old, young
